COVID-19 FAQ

do you offer covid-19 testing?

Yes! Bluedoor offers two different testing options for COVID-19 diagnosis.

PCR in vitro diagnostic test intended for the qualitative detection of RNA from SARS-CoV-2.

Rapid 15 minute COVID-19 Antigen testing with the BD VeritorTM. The BD VeritorTM System for Rapid Detection of SARS-CoV-2 is a chromatographic digital immunoassay intended for the direct and qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid antigens in nasal swabs from individuals who are suspected of COVID-19.

Bluedoor also offers Rapid COVID-19 Antibody detection testing and Serology Antibody testing.

how do I know which test is right for me?

There are two types of diagnostic tests for COVID-19: molecular and antigen. Molecular tests (RT-PCR) detect the virus’s genetic material, whereas antigen tests (rapid 15 minute) are designed to detect specific proteins in the virus. Antibody tests looks for antibodies that are formed in your body shortly after an active infection. Antibody tests should not be used to diagnose COVID-19.

A Real-time RT-PCR test may be right for you if:

You are planning on/returning from international travel.

You are traveling somewhere that requires a PCR test.

You are asymptomatic but concerned about a potential exposure.

You’re not in a huge hurry for results (PCR tests typically take 48-72 hours)

You’d like to pay through insurance

A Rapid 15 minute Antigen test may be right for you if:

You are actively experiencing symptoms of COVID-19

You need/want fast, same day results (read more about our same day testing options here)

If you are asymptomatic and receive a positive antigen test, it is recommended that you cross check with a molecular test for confirmation.

An antibody test may be right for you if:

You recently recovered from COVID-19.

You suspect you may have recently had undiagnosed and/or asymptomatic COVID-19.

You recently received the COVID-19 vaccine and want to confirm if your antibodies have formed.

But I'm vaccinated, can I really get COVID?

As COVID continues to evolve, it's important that even vaccinated individuals remain alert and diligent. The Omicron Variant is on the rise in the US and Los Angeles and breakthrough cases are very common (though very mild), even for those who have had all three vaccinations. Maintaining safe practices - including social distancing, adhering to mask mandates, and regular testing - is recommended.

is it free? how much does it cost?

Testing at bluedoor does incur a fee as we are a private health facility and not a city testing site. We do accept insurance for PCR testing. Antibody and Rapid COVID-19 testing is not covered by insurance. Price list below:

15-minute Rapid COVID-19 Antigen testing - $125.

COVID-19 PCR tests - $150 (insurance accepted. expedited results are available for an additional fee, see below).

Rapid Antibody Tests - $85.

is it covered by insurance?

We accept most PPO insurances for PCR swab testing. If we are out of network, or you have an HMO, we will collect a $25 copay. Rapid COVID-19 Anigen swab tests and Rapid Antibody tests are not covered by insurance. See more info on our insurance options here .

do you offer same day testing

We also offer same day COVID-19 Antibody detection testing.

but aren’t urgent cares filled with germs?

Not necessarily. Our sanitation protocols have always been top priority, and we’ve added extra measures to ensure safety against COVID-19:

Contactless registration to minimize transfer between patient and staff.

Drive up COVID testing for symptomatic patients to encourage safe testing.

Plant barriers to promote in-office social distancing .

Outdoor waiting areas to minimize contact.

PURO UV light disinfectant throughout the facility. PURO is a powerful, broad-spectrum light, including germicidal UV-C, UV-B and anti-bacterial UV-A to optimize their germ-killing efficiency with 99.94% or greater efficacy.

is it a nasal or oral swab?

We test with a nasal swab.

is it painful?

Our COVID tests should not be painful (though it might tickle!). In fact, our staff is trained using the Bluedoor Extra Gentle™ swabbing technique to minimize pain and discomfort.

What is Bluedoor Extra Gentle™ testing?

Bluedoor developed the Extra Gentle™ technique to minimize the pain and discomfort often associated with medical testing. Our staff are required to complete a 12 hour certificate training. Whether you are getting a nasal, blood, or urine test, you can be sure our staff will go above and beyond to ensure calm and comfort.

What is the Bluedoor Extra-Gentle™ technique?

The Extra Gentle™ technique helps to provide a pleasant and pain-free testing experience. We use highly sensitive nasal swabs that allow our staff to perform less invasive tests, which in turn helps to minimize pain and discomfort.

is it a PCR swab?

Yes, we offer PCR swab options. Read all about it here .

how long do results take?

Rapid COVID-19 test results are ready within 15 minutes.

PCR test results can take up to 72 hours. However, expedited results are available for an additional fee. $250 for next day/24 hr. $350 for same day results.

how will i be notified of my results?

We will call or text you with your consent. Results can be emailed upon request.

whats the difference between covid and antibody testing?

Simply put, the COVID-19 test will detect if you are currently infected. PCR tests - testing for presence of the virus RNA - are the most sensitive test, which makes them most effective in early detection. Antigen tests detect specific proteins on the surface of the virus and are most effective in identifying an active and contagious presence of COVID.

The Antibody test will detect if your body has developed COVID-19 antibodies, indicating that you may have had COVID-19 in recent months.

do you offer drive up testing?

Yes! If you are feeling symptomatic or have had a confirmed exposure to COVID-19, we ask that you remain in your vehicle and call us at (310) 391.5241. We will send a provider out to your vehicle to perform testing.
